About Billie Bond

Billie Bond is a figurative sculptor who explores the human form through social and cultural identity, capturing a sensitivity that relates closely to her own experiences of life. As a mother, aspects in the changes of motherhood stimulate her strong feelings of concerns in an ageing population of first-time mothers. Billie continues to experiment with materials and processes to achieve highly crafted objects of aesthetic beauty.

Artist Statement of Billie Bond

My intent is to create human figurative works that are aesthetically engaging with social, romantic and realistic qualities. My narrative questions cultural and consumer identity and explores influencing factors.
It is important for me that modern technology, as well as traditional materials and methods, are used in the creative process.

My work examines how social and political history changes expected ideologies and the effect it has had on identity.

Influences / Inspiration of Billie Bond

I have been inspired by broken ancient artefacts and forgotten civilizations and have used this notion as a vehicle to express my concerns of changing identity. I also use this notion to present my work as a sign of decay in a social context and to express the need for change.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."

Customer comment on 'Little Owl (Small Carved Wood on Post carvings/statues/statuettes)' by Nigel Sardeson
Hi Thank you for providing me with such a great service and wonderful sculpture … I can say more.... It`s a present for my fathers 80th and the perfect thing to have found for someone who already has most things! He`s an ornithologist too and adores the garden. We have bought it as a family and Nigel engraved our family crest on to it and went out of his way to deliver it to us saving us a fortune! It`s so heavy! I would be delighted if you used my comments! Thanks ... [Read more]
